Seeing your company featured in a magazine or online is such an awesome feeling! Even after 20 years, I still get a huge rush when I see all my hard work pay off.
PR isn't a walk in the park – there are tons of hurdles, and sometimes, just one big news story can make your press release get tossed aside.
But, if you keep at it and follow through, PR can really pay off for small business owners.
I've landed spots in the Daily Express, OK! magazine, Good Housekeeping, P&J, Evening Express, and The Courier, just to name a few.
PR is just one of the tools available within the marketing mix.

Owner and Director, Chris Graham wanted to 'give back' to the NHS after his family needed the support of the NHS during the summer of 2020 and again in January 2021 when we entered lockdown no 2. So we decided to run a public relations campaign from Aberdeen to Dundee.
Chris received an amazing amount of support through his campaign - backed by key suppliers - who enabled CNG Design to offer one NHS worker the chance to receive a free bathroom installation package worth up to £8,000.
A major success story focused on one of Dundee's oldest bakeries teaming up with one of Dundee's newest companies. Clark's Bakery confirmed its exclusive partnership with Zippy D - Dundee's only online food app and delivery company with its fleet of electric BMW i3 branded cars.
The local press in Dundee loved this public relations exercise!
6 months later, I left the business. It's so sad that after my departure, I witnessed the downfall of the growth business I had help launched and nurtured through to managed growth.
Graham tasked me with raising his profile as the youngest Scottish chef to have received a Michelin star. I created a public relations campaign to target the local, top media titles from Aberdeen to Dundee.
We received coverage in the Press & Journal on the Friday plus secured this double page spread on the Saturday.
The aim of this PR campaign was to secure editorial in women's national glossy magazines.
By making sure that the magazines' readership reflected Mandarina's target market, we secured editorial which resulted in increased online shoe sales and a complete sell-out of one of their shoe designs.
This was a great annual food and drink festival held at Glamis Castle. I was involved with the PR and Sponsorship side but gradually became more and more involved with the promotion of the event. I managed the publicity and on site activities of Bake Off winner, Candice Brown as well as overseeing Taste Angus's official sponsors who included Seat, Skoda, Thorntons Law and Mackays Jams.
